DIY plantation shutters installation

DIY project often can save you loads of money, you start off with your own measurement before pass order to the factory, and finish installation at your own time. On the other hand, you take risk in case anything goes wrong.

Here are some tips we can offer for all DIYers:

Take accurate measurements: Proper measurement is crucial for later installing procedure. Measure the width and height of the window opening in several places to ensure accuracy. Make sure to account for any obstacles, such as window handles, locks, or cranks.

Extra hand is always recommend, you may need assistance to hold frame while you drill into windows, and hold the panel to secure the hinges etc.

Use a drill to make pilot holes for screws – this is highly recommended, particularly when you order the wood plantation shutters, otherwise the screw will crack and damage your shutters.

Decide whether to go face mount or recess mount – see link here.

Use a level: Ensure that the shutters are installed level by using a level during the installation process. A level will help you make sure that the shutters are straight and balanced, which will ensure proper operation and functionality.

Use the correct hardware: Use the correct hardware that is recommended for your specific type of window and shutter. Using the wrong hardware can cause the shutters to be unstable and difficult to operate.

Allow for proper clearance: When installing shutters, it’s important to allow for proper clearance between the shutters and the window frame to ensure smooth operation. Typically, a 3mm clearance is recommended on each width and height.

Secure the shutters properly: Make sure that the shutters are securely attached to the window frame using screws or other appropriate hardware. This will ensure that the shutters stay in place and do not become dislodged.

Follow manufacturer’s instructions: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully when installing plantation shutters. These instructions will provide specific guidelines on how to properly install the plantation shutters, and will help ensure that the installation process goes smoothly.

Hire a professional installer at least to do one window for you as demonstration: If you’re not comfortable with installing indoor plantation shutters yourself, or if you have particularly challenging windows or unusual installation requirements, it’s best to hire a professional installer. A professional installer will have the tools, knowledge, and experience needed to install your plantation shutters correctly, safely, and efficiently.
